Select Traditional Filipino breads and more are now available for pickup and delivery.

Classic Pandesal

Pandesal is a type of bread that is a staple in the Philippines. It is typically eaten for breakfast or merienda, which is a light meal or snack between meals. Pandesal is usually soft and fluffy on the inside, with a slightly crusty exterior.

Traditionally, pandesal is baked in a wood-fired oven, which gives it a distinct flavor and texture. However, modern bakeries like Solarhands Bakery may use different methods for baking, such as a conventional oven.

Solarhands Bakery's version of pandesal is made with simple ingredients like flour, butter, water, and salt. The bread is also sprinkled with breadcrumbs, which adds a slightly crunchy texture to the crust. The result is a delicious and satisfying bread that is perfect for starting the day or as a light snack.

Classic Ensaymada

Ensaymada, also known as ensaimada, is a beloved and widely recognized fluffy bread in the Philippines. It is typically coated with a mixture of margarine and butter and often takes the shape of a round, bloated pancake, although some bakeries may shape it like large muffins.

To create the perfect Ensaymada, bakeries in the Philippines follow a process of coating the bread with a mixture of margarine and sugar, which gives it a slightly toasted appearance on top. The result is an extra soft bread that's perfect for any time of day, whether it's enjoyed as a snack or as part of a meal.

If you're a fan of sweet and fluffy bread, then Ensaymada is definitely worth trying. Whether you prefer the traditional round shape or the larger muffin shape, this beloved Filipino bread is sure to satisfy your sweet tooth.

Our humble story

In the bustling heart of Hong Kong, amid the hustle and bustle of life, a remarkable online bakery began to bloom. This was no ordinary bakery; it was the dream of a warm-hearted housewife named Love. With training in nursing, she had always cared deeply for others, but the hospital environment never quite felt like home. Instead, her true passion lay in baking, a hobby she nurtured by creating treats for her husband and their three children.

As the world succumbed to the chaos of the pandemic, Love found herself at home, craving a creative outlet. During long evenings spent in the living room with her family, they discovered the anime Yakitate!! Japan, a whimsical show about bread-making. They were particularly enchanted by Kazuma Azuma, a character with "solar hands"—palms that naturally warmed dough, making him an extraordinary baker. Inspired by his passion and talent, Love decided to take her baking to the next level.

She signed up for baking classes, each session igniting her excitement further. With every lesson, she honed her skills, experimenting with flavors, techniques, and textures. Her family watched in awe as she transformed simple ingredients into heavenly pastries, breads, and cakes. Friends and neighbors, drawn by the delicious aromas wafting from her kitchen, began to shower her with compliments. "You have a gift!" they would say, and she felt a spark of confidence igniting within her.

During the lockdown, Love noticed a longing in the Filipino community for traditional pastries they cherished back home—pandesal, ensaymada, Spanish bread, and cheese rolls. It was a gap she yearned to fill. With her newfound skills and the inspiration of Kazuma Azuma guiding her, she dove into the challenge, perfecting these recipes and sharing them online.

Thus, Solarhands Bakery was born as an online shop. The name reflected not only her inspiration from the anime but also her warm, nurturing approach to baking. Each loaf and pastry was crafted with love, and soon word spread through social media and community groups. Locals flocked to her website, eager to taste the nostalgic flavors of the Philippines, reimagined through Love's skilled hands.

At first, her menu featured beloved staples: the soft, slightly sweet pandesal, the fluffy ensaymada, the sweet Spanish bread, and the savory cheese roll. But Love's culinary creativity didn't stop there. She began baking popular empanadas, filled with savory meats and vegetables, which quickly became a favorite among her customers. Her ube macapuno cakes and rich chocolate cakes also gained a loyal following, delighting taste buds with each slice.

Encouraged by the enthusiastic response, Love expanded her offerings to include custom cakes for any celebration—birthdays, anniversaries, and even weddings. Each cake was a masterpiece, crafted with attention to detail and personalized to reflect the unique tastes of her clients.

As orders poured in, Love embraced the challenge of running a bakery from home. She carefully packaged each item, ensuring they arrived fresh and delightful at her customers' doorsteps. The bakery quickly became a haven for Filipinos missing the comforts of home. Each bite transported them back to family gatherings and festive celebrations, and Love's cheerful demeanor shone through in every order confirmation and handwritten note.

As the pandemic waned and life began to return to normal, Solarhands Bakery stood as a testament to resilience, creativity, and the power of community. Love had turned her passion into a thriving online business, bringing joy and comfort to many. In the heart of Hong Kong, amidst the high-rises and crowded streets, the aroma of freshly baked goods continued to waft through the lives of her customers, reminding them that sometimes, the best things in life are baked with love.
